Recently, I've been hit by a few friends and acquaintances dying. Not
a lot, but enough to make me worry. I'm 48 this year. In the rock n'
roll business that's pretty good. To be still making as much art and
music as I can, that's a miracle. The work is ever more gestural,
immediate and calligraphic – perhaps as a result of the above.
Moreover, much of the work is invisible. Not to the naked eye per se,
but more to undocumented performance in the moment. The reason for
this is I tend to rescue things from the archive and give them 2nd or
3rd lives. The same with music. As time moves forward, for me, things
become more ephemeral and disappearing. The work at the moment is
against that – against documentation, against over finishing, against
over determination. In 2016, starting in Sydney, I'll be doing a
series of performance / exhibitions - where I set up a show, play some
live music and do local interventions then move on to Hong Kong,
Istanbul, Malaga and Guangzhou, China.
